Sure, most people love ice cream, but what about a delicious nice cream? This soft-serve-like dessert is made from frozen bananas plus a little dairy or non-dairy milk. It has more nutrients and less fat than the original treat, but it’s super-creamy and will still satisfy your sweet tooth.

The Basics

We love using almond milk for our nice cream liquid, but you’re welcome to use any kind of milk or non-dairy alternative you like. The basic recipe for our 64-ounce Low-Profile Container is 1½ cups of liquid and 1½ lbs of frozen ingredients (bananas plus whatever other ingredients you want). Vitamix can power through the hard, frozen bananas quickly and easily!

If you want to add more sweetness to your nice cream, dates are a great option. Unlike sugar, they’re a whole food with beneficial fiber and other important nutrients, like potassium, magnesium, iron, and B vitamins.

As you make your nice cream, have your tamper handy to push the ingredients toward the blades. If the mixture isn’t setting up well, add more frozen foods to the blend. If it’s too frozen, you can either blend a little longer or add some more liquid. You’ll know it’s perfect when you have four smooth round mounds at the top of the mixture.

Your Favorite Flavor

Just like traditional ice cream, nice cream can come in as many flavors as you can dream up. You could stick with classics like chocolate and strawberry, or explore more unique flavor options like our blueberry avocado or white sesame nice cream.

Just like you can add veggies to your smoothies, you always have the option to add them to your nice cream, too. This might require some experimenting for taste, though, especially if you’re trying kale or other hearty ingredients.

So the next time you’re craving ice cream, try indulging in some nice cream instead. Whichever flavor you choose, this sweet but healthy dessert is sure to hit the spot!
